Suspicious Item Triggers Shelter In Place Order At Conn. College

A suspicious item found on the Connecticut College campus was ultimately deemed to be safe.

NEW LONDON, CT — A suspicious event triggered a shelter in place order on the Connecticut College campus Monday evening, according to a police statement. Police and fire personnel responded to a call at 7:52 p.m. regarding a suspicious item discovered on the walking path between Crozier Williams Student College Center and the Plex.

The item was described as a metal cylinder, taped with wires sticking out of it. Police and campus safety cleared the area and a shelter in place order was sent out to Connecticut College students. The Connecticut Police Bomb Squad was notified and responded.

The bomb squad determined the item was safe. The item was part of a recent repair to LED lighting on the walking path. The shelter in place order was then lifted.
