Tree Falls, Seriously Damages New London House: Fire Department

NEW LONDON, CT — Firefighters responded when a tree fell on a New London home Wednesday morning. The fire department received a call at 6:45 a.m. reporting a tree that fell at 55-57 Jay St.

The fire department arrived and removed the occupants of the house. There were 10 people living in the house and no one sustained injuries.

The building sustained significant structural damage and will be condemned, according to the fire department.

Eversource Gas and Electric Divisions responded to disconnect electricity and natural gas to the building.

The Red Cross is assisting the 10 displaced occupants. The adjacent commercial building at 49 Jay St. also sustained damage to the roof of the building.

Firefighters assisted the occupants in removing personal items and securing the building.
