'Unprecedented' Number of Heroin Overdoses Reported in New London

A total of eight people on Thursday have been treated for overdoses and a ninth person has died, according to a published report.

A lethal supply of a “brown” colored heroin is being sold in New London and on Thursday alone, eight overdose cases were treated at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, and a ninth person has died, the New London Day reports Thursday evening.

Three other overdose cases were reported on Wednesday, a hospital official said.

More overdose cases are expected, the official told the Day.

Hospital officials called the number of recent overdose cases “unprecedented.” Three of the victims are known to be from New London and one from Waterford.

Officials believe the supply of heroin in question is confined to New London for now.
