What's 500 Feet Long, Free And Open 24 Hours A Day? - Oops, We Gave You The Answer
We started our day bright and early with a pre-dawn visit to the Fishing Pier. Fog hung low across the river but there no fishermen out yet so we decided to take a stroll and explore the adjacent shoreline.
The paved walkway extending to the north and south of the pier made for a comfortable walk and offered a great view of the river and shore.
On our solitary walk, we saw raccoons scouring the shore for shellfish, a comorant drying off its feathers and a small boat fisherman working his way past the pier from upriver.

Returning a few hours later we saw a New London fisherman landing a keeper sized fluke from the end of the pier and visited with him for a bit. We leaned that he recently earned a degree in marine science and was enjoying the fishing experience on more than one level.
Later, we found two more New London fishermen on pier, both first-time users of the 500-foot long public fishing pier. Although we didn't see them take any fish, they both said that they were just there for the joy of fishing and didn't really care if they caught anything at all.
