Waterford Nursing Home Fined For Giving Patient Wrong Meds

A long-term care facility was fined after a nurse gave a patient the wrong medication and the patient became unresponsive.

WATERFORD, CT — New London Sub-Acute and Nursing in Waterford has been fined as a resident received the wrong medication and became unresponsive, according to Connecticut Health I-Team. The resident was found unresponsive Oct. 10, 2019, when a nurse accidentally administered the resident's roommate's medication to the resident.

This included Ativan, a sedative; Lexapro, an antidepressant; and Clozapine, an antipsychotic. The resident was taken to a hospital and discharged Oct. 27 to a long-term facility.

New London Sub-Acute and Nursing was fined $6,690 for the incident, and the nurse involved was fired, according to Connecticut Health I-Team.
