Woman Hit, Killed By Amtrak Train In New London

A woman was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in New London on Friday morning.

NEW LONDON, CT — A woman was hit and killed by an Amtrak train near State Pier Road on Friday, The New London Day reported. The woman was struck shortly before 10 a.m. near the railroad bridge that connects the Thames River between Groton and New London.

The victim's identity has not been released. It's unclear why she was on the tracks.

The train, which was traveling from Boston to Roanoke, VA, was stopped on tracks for several hours during the investigation, according to The New London Day.

No injuries were reported to the 425 people onboard the train, according to FOX 61.

Amtrak Northeast tweeted the following: "Train 171 is currently stopped east of New London (NLC) due to a trespasser incident. We will provide an update as more information becomes available."
