Woman Shot, Suspect Held On $1 Million Bond: New London Police

The shooting occurred on Saturday afternoon, according to police.

NEW LONDON, CT — A Norwich resident has been charged in connection with a shooting in New London on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Police said the shooting occurred at 4:23 p.m. at a residence in the area of Wall Street and Summer Street.

Officers found an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound to her lower extremity, police said.

Officers quickly applied a tourniquet and applied pressure to stabilize the victim's injury, police said. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment, police added.

The accused, Mildred Negron, 51, of Central Avenue, Norwich, was taken into custody at 5 p.m. in Norwich.

Negron has been charged with first-degree assault, criminal use of a firearm/discharge of a firearm, risk of injury to a child, first-degree reckless endangerment, home invasion, illegal discharge of a firearm, interfering with an emergency call, carrying a pistol without a permit.

Negron is being held on a $1,000,000 surety bond.

This incident is being investigated as a domestic violence-related matter, police said.

"The New London Police Department takes all domestic violence incidents seriously and remains committed to protecting victims and holding offenders accountable," police said.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
