Plant lovers and garden gurus are invited to <a href="https://judyblackpark.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">The Judy Black Memorial Park and Gardens</a> for their annual Gardenpalooza event on Saturday, May 16 from 10 am to 1 pm. 

Local organizations, businesses, schools and individuals will be hosting a variety of garden-themed fun. 

<ul><li>“The New Beautiful: Gardening Trends You Need To Know" discussion panel at 11 am with Heather Liljengren, Tovah Martin, Barbara Paul Robinson and Richard Rosiello, moderated by Michelle Madden.</li><li><a href="https://farmersandcooks.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Farmers and Cooks</a> will be on site offering tasty ready-to-eat food for purchase featuring local ingredients. </li><li>The <a href="https://www.gunnlibrary.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Gunn Memorial Library</a> will host a children’s craft.</li><li>Certified Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer all your horticulture questions.</li><li><a href="https://www.conngardener.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Connecticut Gardner Magazine</a> will be present with information.</li><li><a href="https://www.washingtongardenclubct.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Washington Garden Club</a>, <a href="https://www.andersonacresfarm.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Anderson Acres</a> and Shepaug’s Ag Stem program will also be participating.</li></ul>

Merwinsville Hotel Restoration

The Merwinsville Hotel’s ninth annual Spring Arts and Fine Crafts Show will open April 17 featuring over 90 local artists and artisans, offering many potential Mother’s Day gifts. The show offers 6 days of shopping over two 3-day weekends, April 17-19 and April 24-26, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the historic Merwinsville Hotel in Gaylordsville, CT. 
All of the work is for sale with a portion of all sales benefitting the restoration of the Merwinsville Hotel, supporting the 100 percent-volunteer nonprofit that has worked to restore the building for over 50 years. The 183-year-old building needs constant maintenance and renovation.
The show features high quality artwork in glass, photography, jewelry, sculpture, fiber, woodwork, pottery and paintings in watercolors, oil and acrylic. Locally grown plants are also available for sale from Meadowbrook Garden in New Milford and JohnBella Gift, Garden &amp; Masonry in Gaylordsville.
One of the features of the spring show is live artist demonstrations on each Saturday (April 18 and April 25) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Artists will be available to show their work and answer questions. Confirmed artists this year are Adele Moros, Bethel CT; Elizabeth O'Conner, Gaylordsville, Bluebird Hill Design Susan Randel, New Milford, Black Sheep Knits; Jen Benham, Warren, glass artist; Linda McMillan, Torrington, Happy Dog Studio; and Lori Meehan, Brookfield, LMM Designs. Past years have included spinners, weavers, jewelry making, wood carvers and many more. 
There is a suggested $3 donation per person for the Spring Show. Children under 10 are free. Members are admitted free and those at the sponsor level membership and above will receive a discount on art purchased at one of the three annual shows. Memberships start at $20.
The Merwinsville Hotel is on the National Registry of Historic Places located at 1 Browns Forge Road in Gaylordsville, CT, only 15 minutes from Kent, Sherman, New Milford and the Harlem Valley/Wingdale Railroad Station. Village Center for the Arts

Village Center for the Arts in New Milford, CT is proud to introduce two new ongoing Art Therapy Group series led by Jessica LaBarca, MA, ATR-BC, LPC, a board-certified art psychotherapist and licensed professional counselor with over 15 years of clinical experience.
Beginning evenings in April, these two monthly groups will provide structured, professionally guided support for adults (18+) navigating:
Chronic illness, autoimmune conditions, or physical disability &nbsp; Grief and loss following the death of a loved one
Each group meets separately and is designed to offer a safe, creative space for emotional exploration and community connection.
The Chronic Illness Art Therapy Group begins Wednesday, April 22 and will meet on the third Wednesday of each month from 6:30–7:30 PM.
The Grief and Loss Art Therapy Group begins Wednesday, April 29 and will meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 6:30–7:30 PM.
No prior art experience is required. Participants will be guided through art-making processes using drawing, painting, collage, journaling, or mixed media as tools for reflection and emotional discovery. The focus is not on artistic skill, but on expression and shared experience. Art can provide a powerful way to explore emotions, build coping tools, and strengthen social support.
Sessions are $50 per meeting. Receipts for insurance reimbursement available upon request. Interested participants are asked to email arttherapywithjess@gmail.com to schedule a consultation prior to joining.
