New Milford to Crack Down on Park Rules, Non-Residents

Nonresidents are avoiding checkpoints by parking on side streets and entering the park through the neighboring woods.

NEW MILFORD — Lynn Deming Park may be the victim of its own popularity, as more and more non-residents discover it and crowd out the residents.

The News Times is reporting that the Town Council said in a meeting on Monday that they are considering signage, a fence, towing and another security officer or a park manager in an attempt to reduce the number of nonresidents who are enjoying the recently renovated park.

Nonresidents are avoiding checkpoints by parking on side streets and entering the park through the neighboring woods, and being shuttled in multiple carloads by residents.

On his Facebook page, Mayor Pete Bass stressed the following points:

  1. The Park is for New Milford Residents only that have purchased a pass or sticker or are a guest of the New Milford Resident(s). Moving forward this will be strictly enforced.
  2. There will be no parking on Candlewood Lake Rd North for Lynn Deming. You will be towed.
  3. Please be courteous to your community and pick up what you have brought to the park. The Townspeople have spend a lot of money to upgrade the park to its current beauty.
  4. If you have not purchased a boat dock you are not allowed to dock a boat and let off non residents or people without a pass/ sticker. This will be strictly enforced.
