New Milford Floats Idea of $200 Property inspection Fee

The fee would serve as compensation for the time and effort spent by officials obtaining a search warrant from state Superior Court.

NEW MILFORD, CT —Residents who turn away the fire marshal when he comes to inspect their property might be charged $200 in the future, the News Times is reporting.

An inspection may be required routinely for an old business, or a fire marshal may be called to inspect a new construction.

The fee would serve as compensation for the time and effort spent by officials obtaining a search warrant from state Superior Court. Only four of the more than 1,100 inspections last year escalated to that level.
