New Milford Library Scores $1M State Grant

The local stacks are among ten libraries statewide that were awarded grants totalling $3.7 million by the Connecticut State Library Board

NEW MILFORD, CT — It's boom times for local area libraries, especially in New Milford.

The Connecticut State Library Board has awarded the local library a $1 million grant for its renovation. This is atop the $1 million the library Board of Trustees also committed $1 million for the work. On election night, residents approved another $6.5 million.

That $8.5 million buys an expansion from from 15,000 to 22,000 square feet, more meeting space and a new facade that will be aesthetically consistent with the current downtown architecture. The library will also be made compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Down south, Danbury Library will be making more modest upgrades with the $100,000 grant it was awarded. The money will be used primarily to upgrade its junior floor's rows of bookcases, build out a formal room for its Story Corner with new audio/visual technology, and build out a new sensory space designed to stimulate children with special needs.

In Ridgefield, the town library was granted $40,400 for remodeling.
