'Stuff the Gazebo' Food Drive Planned at New Milford Gazebo to Benefit Food Pantry

WCGNM and United Way to Hold Food Drive Nov 5, 2016

New Milford, CT – On Saturday November 5, 2016 the Woman’s Club of Greater New Milford and the United Way of Western Connecticut will hold the first of two food drives. “Stuff the Gazebo” will occur from 10am-3pm. Donations will be collected at the bandstand on the New Milford Green.

Each year the two organizations provide a complete Thanksgiving meal for over 200 families in New Milford. We ask that each person bring nonperishable items to help us stuff the Bandstand! Most wanted items are boxed pie crusts, pie fillings, canned sweet potatoes/yams, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, creamed soups, stuffing and turkey gravy. Monetary donations are also accepted and will be used towards the purchase of a turkey for each family.

Our organization: WCGNM is part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. Collectively, we are Living the Volunteer Spirit through raising funds and supporting projects throughout our local community. All of our programs are funded through donations, volunteering, and fundraising efforts of the club. Each year we distribute funds to well over a dozen other non-profit organizations including the Youth Agency, Summer Reading programs, local animal shelters, and other programs within the community. Our primary purpose is to fund at least 2 scholarships yearly that are based on community service and volunteerism. The WCGNM is responsible for events such as The Teddy Bear festival, now in its 20th year (2016), the Fourth of July Cake, Thanksgiving Baskets where we provide Thanksgiving meals for over 200 families each year! We also fundraise through other projects such as the Haunted Trail, Bake Sales, Penny Plus Auctions, Little Black Dress Fashion show and a variety of other projects.
