60-Year-Old Newtown Man Returned Items From Social Services, Pocketed Cash: Police

A Newtown man is facing charges of defrauding the public community.

NEWTOWN, CT — A 60-year-old Newtown man was arrested after he received help from Newtown Social Services for home repairs, returned the items and pocketed the cash, according to a police report.

George Hospodar, of Berkshire Road, was arrested on Monday after a months-long investigation and charged with second-degree larceny by defrauding a public community, police said.

According to police, Hospodar contacted Newtown Social Services several times to request materials for home repairs but instead of making the repairs, Hospodar returned the items to the store and kept the money, police said.

He was released on a promise to appear in Superior Court in Danbury on May 10.
