Alliance Spurring Economic Growth For Western Connecticut Area

Economic Development Strategy filed in hopes of receiving state and federal grants.

(The WCEDA released the following press release Thursday.)

The Western Connecticut Economic Development Alliance (WCEDA) is looking for new ways to increase economic development throughout the Greater Danbury-New Milford area.

The alliance, which formed in 2010, recently filed a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy that will allow the group to apply for federal and state grants, once the plan is approved. The WCEDA represents Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield and Sherman.

Elizabeth Stocker, Newtown’s Economic and Community Development Director, and Danbury's Director of Economic Development Wayne Shepperd are two of the founding members of the group.

The WCEDA is a collaboration of the public and private sectors of the Housatonic Valley.  Members include Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P), the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce, the Savings Bank of Danbury, Coldwell Banker Commercial, and Western Connecticut State University.

In addition to receiving funding through grants, the alliance is looking to the Housatonic Valley business community for financial support. For more information on the WCEDA, contact Liz Adams, Economic Development & Community Relations, CL&P, at 860-665-2679 or adamsem@nu.com.
