NEWTOWN, CT — While Newtown does not have a major town-sponsored Independence Day fireworks display planned this year, residents won't have to travel far to celebrate the Fourth of July.
Several nearby communities will host fireworks, live entertainment and family-friendly events as part of America's 250th anniversary celebration.
Ridgefield's annual Family Fireworks Celebration is set for July 4 at Ridgefield High School, 700 North Salem Road.
Gates open at 6 p.m., with food vendors and family activities planned before fireworks begin at dusk. A rain date is scheduled for July 5.
Wilton will mark Independence Day with its first July 4 parade, community celebrations and an evening fireworks display.
Fireworks are expected to begin at dusk at the Wilton High School Sports Complex, 395 Danbury Road, following a day of festivities honoring America's 250th birthday.
Weston's annual "3rd of July" celebration returns July 3 to Weston Middle School Field, 135 School Road. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the event will feature live music, food trucks and family-friendly activities before a fireworks display at dusk. Admission is $5 for walk-ins and $20 per vehicle.
One of the region's most unique Independence Day events returns to Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury.
The park's annual "Blast at the Beach" celebration is scheduled for July 4 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Lake Quassapaug, with fireworks expected around 10 p.m. Guests receive special 3D glasses designed to enhance the display.
Quassy Amusement Park is located at 2132 Middlebury Road in Middlebury.
