CVS, Big Y Also Offer Gas Reward Programs

Many stores are enticing customers with gas reward promotions. Recently, Newtown Patch ran a story on the . CVS and Big Y also apparently have their own gas rewards program.

CVS/pharmacy

In the CVS/pharmacy program, customers must present their ExtraCare card prior to buying select items in the store totaling $30 in a week. The eligible items are denoted in the CVS circular with a “get free gas” symbol. Once $30 worth of purchases is reached that week, a coupon will print on the sales receipt. Customers then must present the coupon to a CVS cashier in order to receive a $10 gas gift card, which, depending on the supply, will be for a specific vendor, such as Shell, Exxon/Mobil, or BP. If the gas gift card is out of stock at the CVS store, the coupon can be redeemed at another CVS.

Remember the purchases have to be for specific merchandise noted in the current week’s circular as eligible for the gas rewards program. The $30 requirement must be reached in the same week and cannot carry over. There is a limit of one coupon per household per week.

Big Y

In the Big Y Express Rewards program, customers who frequently shop at the supermarket are familiar with its Express Savings Club Card and the coins associated with that program. In the Big Y gas promotion, a silver coin will lead to a $.05 discount off every gallon, up to a maximum of 20 gallons; while a gold coin equates to $.20 off every gallon, also up to a maximum of 20 gallons. 

The coins can be redeemed at participating gas stations. Present the coin prior to pumping the gas. Only one coin can be used per purchase. Again the discount only applies to a maximum of 20 gallons. Area gas stations offering the discount in exchange for the Big Y coins are:

This week (June 23-29, 2011), the Big Y has a coupon in its circular, offering a free gold coin to customers who make $50 in purchases during a single shopping trip through Wednesday, June 29.
