Eye In The Sky: Newtown PD Drone Unit Tracks Illegal Dirt Biking

Police officials said they are gearing up for the increase in illegal dirt bike and ATV activity that comes with the better weather.

NEWTOWN, CT — The Newtown Police Department has issued a warning about illegal dirt bike activity.

At 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, police used drones to investigate a complaint about dirt bikes trespassing on a Buttonshop Road property.

The Newtown Police Drone Unit was able to locate and confirm the illegal activity, as well as assist patrol officers in making contact with the dirt bike riders, according to police officials.

The two adult dirt bikers were issued infractions for trespassing on the private property, police said.

Police officials said they are gearing up for the increase in illegal dirt bike and all-terrain vehicle activity that comes with the better weather.

"As a reminder, it is unlawful to operate these vehicles on train tracks, roadways, and it is also unlawful to operate them on private property without the property owner’s permission. This activity can be not only unsafe, but a detriment to the quality of life of those living in the neighborhoods where it is taking place," police officials posted to social media.
