Frugal Family: Newtown's Restaurant Week

Newtown's first began Tuesday and runs through September 16. Participating restaurants offer various deals and menus, but here are a few standouts that tempt the taste buds without damaging the wallet.

1. - Breakfast
Deal: Two eggs, toast, homefries and coffee for $1.99. Free Mickey Mouse pancake or French toast sticks for kids under age 10.
Good through: Sept. 16

2. - Lunch
Deal: Eggplant Parmigiana Grinder with a tossed salad for $5.
Good through: Sept. 16

3. - Lunch
Deal: Buy anything on the menu, get one free (excluding pizza).
Good through: Sept. 16

4. - Dinner
Deal: Dip sampler appetizer for two, Mona's Chicken (stuffed chicken breast with scallops, shrimp, fresh mozzarella and asparagus finished in a mushroom Marsala wine sauce over lobster ravioli) and dessert for $25.
Good through: Sept. 16

5. - Dinner
Deal: Gorgonzola garlic bread, Tilapia Piccata with risotto, lemon white wine sauce and capers, and Drunken Cherry Parfait for $25.
Good through: Sept. 16

6. - Lunch/Dinner
Deal: Lunch entree specials ($15) are buy-one-get-one free. For dinner: Asparagus Wrap appetizer (grilled asparagus wrapped in prosciutto and smoked Gouda cheese), salad, 6 oz. Fire Grilled Filet Mignon, and Pineapple Piña Colada Cake for $25.
