“Icons of American Music” Concert in Newtown March 15

Danbury Community Band Returning for 2nd Concert

NEWTOWN, CT — The Danbury Community Band, under the direction of Albert Montecalvo, will be presenting the concert “Icons of American Music,” at the Newtown Congregational Church March 15, 2026 at 4 pm.

Presented by the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission and the Danbury Music Centre, the concert will honor the 250th Anniversary of the United States and the 90th Anniversary of the Danbury Music Centre.

The concert will feature the music of Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, and Dave Brubeck.

This is the second year that the Community Band will be performing in Newtown. “The first concert was so well attended, we are delighted to be returning,” said director Albert Montecalvo

The concert is free with contributions gratefully accepted.

Albert Montecalvo founded the Danbury Community Band in 2021. He has been a part of the Danbury Music Centre since 2002 and was director of music grades K-12 and bands in Carmel, NY until his retirement in 1998. He has performed as a drummer and percussionist with many local orchestras, theater groups and big bands.

The band is regional and attracts members from all area towns. Area residents who play standard band instruments are encouraged to contact The Danbury Music Center at dmc@danburymusiccentre.orgfor position openings in the band and audition schedules.
