Two great fundraiser events hosted by the Friends of the Second Company Governor's Horse Guard happening in Newtown.
The first, is a Compost Drive for all the gardening enthusiasts. Stop by the compost pile located at the back of the Newtown Dog Park (21 Old Farm Road) on Saturday, Sept. 11th & 18th, between 9AM and 1PM. Bring your buckets or containers and volunteers will be on site to help fill them up! Please no trucks or trailer loads, and all donations collected will go towards the care and feed for the horses of the Second Company Governor's Horse Guard. The next compost drive will be scheduled in the spring.
The second event is geared towards horse owners in the area. This will be their Second Annual "Your Horse - Our Trails" Pleasure Ride Fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 3rd. There are ribbons and prizes for 1st 2nd, and 3rd, as well as excellent raffle prizes.

Saddle fitter, "The Refined Equine", will be on site offering discounted saddle fittings with proceeds going towards The Horse Guard. The Refined Equine was created with the horses' best interest in mind. "Today's equestrians are becoming aware of the need for specialized equine services to keep their horses and equipment in the best condition possible. There is a growing demand for saddle fitting and reflocking services to solve soundness and performance issues in today's horses."
The NBLA (Newtown Bridle Lands Association) will have a table at the event, offering information on their activities and membership applications. The NBLA is a town-based nonprofit that maintains horse trails and hosts numerous equine related events. Visit nblact.com for more info. The Second Company Governor's Horse Guard was chartered in 1808 originally to protect and serve the Governor of Connecticut, and is an all-volunteer unit which continues to serve the State under the direction of the Connecticut Army National Guard and the Adjutant General. Recruiting takes place annually starting in October, until around January and they are actively recruiting at the moment.
