Lake Zoar Being Treated With Herbicide
There will be temporary use restrictions for certain areas of Lake Zoar.
NEWTOWN, CT — Certain areas of Lake Zoar will be chemically treated with a herbicide to control aquatic nuisance plants.
The treatment is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 8 and signs will be posted at public access sites. No swimming will be allowed in areas on the day of treatment, treated water from the lake shouldn't be used for drinking purposes for three days or for one day for livestock or domestic animals.
Water shouldn't be used for turf irrigation purposes for three days and shouldn't be used for five days for food crops.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection hired SOLitude Lake Management to perform the work using Reward (Diquat) herbicide.
