Man Hits Street Sign, Drags It Along With Him: Newtown Police

A man crashed into a street sign and fled the scene, with the sign still stuck to his car

NEWTOWN — Police arrested a local man who crashed into a street sign and fled the scene with the sign still attached to his car.

On Monday, around 3:30 p.m., police responded to a call about a car dragging a 25 mph speed limit sign around the Woods Lane neighborhood. Police found a badly damaged 2016 Lexus RX 350 in a garage. After an investigation, police determined that Anthony J. Sacowitz, 74, had crashed into the sign on Old Hawleyville Road while driving the Lexus and fled the scene.

Police charged Sacowitz with DUI, failure to drive in the proper lane, and evading responsibility. He was released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on April 24.
