NewArts Releases Update on their ARC Character Development Program
The programs helps kids discover their character and optimize their strengths.

“During January's ARC session, we determined our inner character strengths then brought them to life.”— Michael Baroody, MD
Helping Kids Discover Their Character
Character is everything. It embodies how you think and feel every second of your life. Character is far more important than intelligence, talent or privilege. By understanding your character, you will be guided toward experiences that will bring purpose and meaning to your life. It seems more often than not, we are thrust into the world hoping to randomly encounter an activity, event or mentor that resonates with us and redirects us onto a path we were meant to travel. Unfortunately, most of us never determine our purpose. At NewArts we want to do all we can to ensure that isn't the case for the amazing kids who walk through our doors. Starting 2017 Off Strong

In our January ARC session, every participant happened to have selected a different character strength. Even though everyone in the group had a similar interest, performing arts, they all have different strengths. Some of these strengths included Hope, Kindness, Creativity, Spirituality, Social Intelligence, Perspective, Gratitude and Humor. We discussed practical examples of how each one of these strengths are used stressing how no one strength is more important or weighted higher than another. The participants write daily in journals describing how they are putting their character strengths into action and how they are recognizing strengths in others.

The ARC (Aspire, Reach, Confidence) program meets monthly to help shape the way our youth see themselves and interpret the world around them. We focus on maximizing personal strengths, confidence and managing fears in order to lead successful lives. We believe it is vitally important for our youth to define themselves as individuals rather than striving to conform to a set standard. The ARC program's curriculum focuses on each individual participant, helping them to determine their true character strengths and encouraging them to optimize those strengths through a variety of activities and daily practice. The ARC sessions are offered every third Wednesday of the month at Walnut Hill Community Church. Contact Michael Baroody if you are interested in participating in the program.
