Citizen participation in town government . Not everyone needs or wants to
run for office, but there are many opportunities to contribute to town
governance, through various boards and volunteer positions , and even just
voting ! I will continue to set a positive example, if re elected, through
active participation in Legislative Council meetings and sub-committees, as
well as reaching out to citizens through town events and encouraging friends
and community members to apply their ideas to Newtown issues.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates
seeking this post?

I have a unique mix of Council experience, small business perspective, and
volunteer work that is valuable for the town. I have been on the Council for
one term now so I have experience in how to engage in topics and support my
positions, but I still have a fresh perspective on the issues. I am a team player and am passionate about Newtown and dedicated to the Council and all that it stands for. I enjoy
creative problem solving challenges and I work well in collaborative
environments .

List other issues that define your campaign platform:

In addition to government participation, my next priority is supporting
education in a financially responsible way. A town that supports education
fosters empowered citizens and engaged voters, and increases the value of our
town.if re-elected I would like to continue on the Education subcommittee and
hope to be a positive and constructive communicator across the political
spectrum in town.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle
this job?

In addition to my work on the Legislative Council, my experience owning a
small business gives me perspective on the importance of business priorities
in Newtown and has influenced my positions. I also have significant volunteer
experience particularly in schools that has taught me the value of
collaboration and the importance of community communication.

The best advice ever shared with me was ...

To learn by listening. Especially in the political arena, and for any new
endeavors it is critical to listen and try to empathize with others.

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your
positions?

I was fortunate to live with my family overseas for 7 years and that
experience was very helpful in broadening my perspective on family, community
,and education. I believe I bring a valuable mix of business experience,
local commitment, and education priority to the Legislative Council and
Newtown.
