Newtown Contractor Sentenced To Prison For Tax Evasion
Newtown contractor Thomas Saint, 67 was sentenced to six months of imprisonment, followed by one year of supervised release.
NEWTOWN, CT —Newtown contractor Thomas R. Saint, 67, was sentenced Tuesday in Hartford to six months of imprisonment, followed by one year of supervised release, for tax evasion.
Saint is is the sole owner of Tom Saint Painting and Remodeling LLC, a Mt. Pleasant Road based painting and home renovation services business. He pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion in February.
From 2013 through 2019, Saint cashed business checks rather than deposit them into his business's bank account, deposited cash and business checks into his personal bank account, and failed to inform his tax preparer, according to a news release from the Office of the US Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

For those tax years, Saint failed to report a total of $2,163,645 in gross receipts, resulting in a tax loss to the government of $791,500. The contractor has paid restitution of $791,500, and has agreed to cooperate with the IRS to pay interest and penalties, according to the US Attorney's Office.
Saint, who is released on a $100,000 bond, is required to report to prison on August 4.
