Newtown Contractor Guilty Of Tax Evasion: Feds
The IRS said the businessman failed to report a total of $2,163,645 in gross receipts, resulting in a tax loss to the government of $791,500
NEWTOWN, CT — A Newtown contractor pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of tax evasion in Bridgeport federal court.
Thomas Saint, 67, cashed business checks rather than deposit them into his business’s bank account, deposited cash and business checks into his personal bank account, and failed to inform his tax preparer, according to a news release from the Office of the US Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
Saint is the sole owner of Tom Saint Painting and Remodeling, based in Newtown.

For the 2013 through 2019 tax years, Saint failed to report a total of $2,163,645 in gross receipts, resulting in a tax loss to the government of $791,500 according to federal officials. Tax evasion carries a maximum term of imprisonment of five years.
Saint, released on a $100,000 bond pending sentencing, has agreed to cooperate with the IRS to pay all outstanding taxes, interest and penalties. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 22 in Hartford.
