NEWTOWN, CT —Local police will be joining many of their colleagues in neighboring departments when they take a dip into icy cold waters for a good cause next month.

Newtown officers are taking pledges for their Penguin Plunge at Jennings Beach in Fairfield on Saturday, April 6.

All pledges collected at the event, organized by the Fairfield Police Department and Fairfield University Department of Public Safety, go to Special Olympics Connecticut.

The annual Penguin Plunge is Special Olympics Connecticut’s largest grassroots fundraisers, and sees thousands of participants raise funds to run into frigid bodies of water throughout the state.

The Newtown police had more than $2,1,00 raised as of March 27. Those wishing to pledge may do so online here.
