Newtown Cyclocross Event Kicks Off Sunday
Cyclocross is a discipline that combines both off-road and on-road cycling.

NEWTOWN, CT — This Sunday, Newtown Cyclocross organized by the Connecticut Cycling Advancement Program (CCAP) and Team 26 will kick off the Connecticut Series of Cyclocross, a series of 7 races that will continue through December.
About 250 riders of all ages will compete at the Second Company Governor's Horse Guard stables in Newtown. This race has been selected as the first in the Connecticut Series of Cyclocross. Cyclocross is a discipline that combines both off-road and on-road cycling and is friendly for riders of all ages, strengths, and experience levels.
The Connecticut Cycling Advancement Program (CCAP) is an organization whose goal is to improve the lives of Connecticut's youth and young adults through the sport of cycling. The CCAP supports young people in cycling from schools all the way up to professional level. Cyclists of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate.

Team 26 is a group of cyclists affected by the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School who are advocating for gun reform laws. Every year the group of 26 cyclists rides approximately 400 miles in four days to Washington DC.
The event, which is a fundraiser for Team 26, will take place on Sunday, September 23 starting at 8:30 am at the Second Company Horse Guard Stables located at 4 Wildlife Drive in Newtown.
