Newtown Declares State of Emergency Amidst Flooding & Heavy Rains
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Fairfield and New Haven Counties until 7:15 p.m.

NEWTOWN, CT — First Selectman Jeff Capeci has declared new a State of Emergency in Newtown, as the area suffers from a heavy rains and flash flooding.
In the Declaration, filed Sunday afternoon, Capeci said the move was necessary "due to the potential of closed roadways; sewer capacity issues and impact to life and properties…"
As a result of the severe weather conditions, Newtown is facing "dangerous roadway as well as public health (sewers) concerns and condition," Capeci said in the Declaration.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Fairfield and New Haven Counties until 7:15 p.m.
"At 508 PM EDT, emergency management reported widespread water rescues across Central Fairfield to Northern New Haven Counties. Several mudslides have been reported. Between 5 and 10 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring," according to the National Weather Service.
