Newtown Election Results 2021: Vote Totals For Winning Candidates
Republicans swept almost all the elected seats.

NEWTOWN, CT — Incumbent First Selectman Dan Rosenthal, who ran unopposed as a petition candidate under the Serve America Movement Party, still received 3,833 votes in Tuesday's election, according to unofficial results.
For the position of Town Clerk, incumbent Republican Debbie Aurelia Halstead was re-elected, defeating Democratic challenger Jordana Bloom, 3,900 to 2,738. Winners are in bold.
For the Board of Selectmen, Republican Ed Schierloh (3,236 votes) edged out incumbent Democrat Maureen Crick Owen (3,234 votes) by two votes, but both were elected to the three-member board with Rosenthal.

As for the Board of Assessment Appeals, Republican Kadri Graffeo defeated incumbent Democrat Ed Randall, 3,280 to 3,118. Republican Scott Reiss was chosen to fill a vacancy for two years.
On the Board of Police Commissioners, Republicans Brian Budd (3,593 votes) and Scott Cicciari (3,544 votes) were winners over Democrat Philip J. Cruz (3,236 votes).

For the Board of Finance, the winning candidates were:
Democrats - Ned Simpson; Laura Miller (3,112 votes); Erica Sullivan (3,182 votes); and John Fletcher
Republicans - Steven Goodridge (3,624 votes); John Madzula II (3,744 votes); Chandravir Ahuja (3,618 votes); and Geoff Dent (3,621 votes)
Five candidates vied for four seats on the Board of Education, they were:
Democrats - Daniel Cruson Jr. (3,475 votes) and Jennifer Padilla
Republicans - Jennifer Larkin (3,675 votes); Janet Kuzma (3,638 votes); and Don Ramsey (3,990 votes)
Other contested races included:
Planning and Zoning Commission — Democrats Don A. Mitchell and Barbara Manville against Republicans Roy Meadows (3,385 votes) and Gregory Rich (3,290 votes)
Planning and Zoning Commission Alternates — Democrats David Rosen (3,219 votes) and Andrew Marone against Republicans Brian Leonardi (3,480 votes) and Connie Widmann (3,787 votes)
Zoning Board of Appeals Alternates — Democrats Christina Paradis (3,163 votes) and Joe Bojnowski against Republicans David Landau (3,563 votes) and Tiffany Hawley (3,613 votes)
Board of Managers of Edmond Town Hall — Full term; Democrat Betsy Paynter (3,161 votes) against Republican Marie Smith (3,275 votes)
For the Newtown Legislative Council, the candidates were:
District 1
Democrats - Chris Gardner (1,153 votes); Peter Schwartz; and Laura Main
Republicans - Lisa Kessler (1,199 votes); Angela Curi (1,151 votes); and William DeRosa (1,174 votes)
District 2
Democrats - Keith Alexander; Daniel T. Honan (1,144 votes); and Robin Lynch
Republicans - Matthew Mihalcik (1,171 votes); Charles Gardner (1,156 votes) and Ryan Knapp (1,275 votes)
District 3
Democrats - Chris Smith; Michelle Embree Ku (1,008 votes); and Alison Plante
Republicans - Jeffrey Capeci (1,201 votes); Tom Long (1,171 votes); and Phil Carroll (1,196 votes)
Ballot question:
"Shall the $8,000,000 special appropriation and $8,000,000 bond authorization for the Hawley-Ventilation and HVAC renovation project be approved?"
