Newtown Group Helps Family Settle in Connecticut After Escaping War-Torn Congo: Report

The family escaped their war-torn home over 16 years ago, and have started a new life.

NEWTOWN, CT — A local group has helped a family who has been on the run for years after escaping their war-torn home find a new life in Connecticut, reports the Daily Voice.

With the help of the Newtown Interfaith partnership for Refugee Resettlement (IPPR), a family of six who chose to remain anonymous have found a new home in Danbury. IPPR's congregants helped bring the family stateside in November, and partnered with a similar New Haven-based group to co-sponsor the family.

The volunteers have helped the family find an apartment, take language classes and get healthcare. The father of the family now has a job in Brookfield, and the children are enrolled in area schools.
