Newtown Man Charged With Stealing 11 Firearms: Police (patch.com) — Newtown residents are learning more about a May investigation on Ferris Road that led to the arrest of 55-year-old resident Robert Gertsch on Aug. 21. Police say he faces 11 counts of stealing a firearm along with burglary, mischief, larceny, and protective order violation charges, and was held on $50,000 bond before being taken to Danbury Superior Court.

Cat Rescued From Newtown House Fire, Flames Contained (patch.com) — Newtown firefighters quickly contained a Wednesday afternoon garage fire and kept it from spreading into the home's living areas, while also rescuing one missing indoor cat. All occupants escaped safely, no firefighters were injured, and officials believe the second indoor-outdoor cat is likely safe as the Fire Marshal's Office investigates the cause.
