Newtown Man Charged With Stealing 11 Firearms: Police (patch.com) — Newtown residents are learning more about a May investigation on Ferris Road that led to the arrest of 55-year-old resident Robert Gertsch on Aug. 21. Police say he faces 11 counts of stealing a firearm along with burglary, mischief, larceny, and protective order violation charges, and was held on $50,000 bond before being taken to Danbury Superior Court.
   

2. Cat Rescued From Newtown House Fire, Flames Contained (patch.com) — Newtown firefighters quickly contained a Wednesday afternoon garage fire and kept it from spreading into the home's living areas, while also rescuing one missing indoor cat. All occupants escaped safely, no firefighters were injured, and officials believe the second indoor-outdoor cat is likely safe as the Fire Marshal's Office investigates the cause.
   

3. Robert and Jill Le Blanc Charitable Trust (insidephilanthropy.com) — A Newtown-based family charitable trust is directing millions of dollars to arts, education, health, and human services, while also supporting the Newtown Scholarship Association. Most of its giving goes to preselected institutions tied to the Le Blancs, especially major New York cultural organizations, and the trust appears to be rapidly drawing down its assets.
   

4. Connecticut's Nepali community mourns, fundraises after deadly floods (nbcconnecticut.com) — A Newtown Nepali restaurant owner and his customers are rallying thousands of dollars to help families devastated by this week's catastrophic floods in Nepal. Jewel of Himalaya's Geljen Nuru Sherpa, whose own relatives are safe, is channeling more than $5,000 raised locally directly to contacts near the disaster zone, while Connecticut's broader Nepali community organizes additional relief.
   

5. NOTEBOOK: Stafford Speedway's proving grounds are nothing new for many of the Modified Tour's best (nascar.com) — A Newtown native, Stephen Kopcik, is among the standout drivers returning to Stafford Speedway for Friday's GAF 150 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race. The story highlights how Stafford has long been a proving ground for top Modified racers, with many current stars, including Kopcik, building impressive win records and championships at the historic Connecticut track.
