Newtown Ice Rink Would be in High Demand
The town is debating how to best use a $15 million gift from GE that came in after the 2012 shooting.

Newtown is considering how best to use a $15 million GE gift to best serve the community and an ice rink is one of the most requested uses of the money.
GE gave Newtown $15 million after the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting in order to build something the entire community could use, according to the News-Times. A survey sent out to town residents came back with suggestions for an ice rink, indoor pool and an all-encompassing community center.

Demand for ice time at rinks in the area is in high demand. Some rinks are booked from open time at 6 a.m. to close at 1 a.m., according to the News-Times. It’s likely a rink in Newtown wouldn’t be any different.
