Newtown Officials: Nothing We Can Do About Door Knockers

Newtown officials announced on the town website that there is little they can do to curtail what some residents view as an annoying door-knocking campaign.

The campaign is being done by Citizens Campaign for the Environment. The town has reached out to the group and has asked it to stop canvassing, especially during the evening hours due to complaints.

The town has no legal right to deny the group access to the community, a statement said. Citizens Campaign for the Environment is required to notify police in advance of when and where they will be canvassing.

The group has fulfilled the requirement. Officials said they would continue to monitor the activities.
