Newtown PD Considered Top Site For Regional Firing Range: Report

NEWTOWN, CT — The new Newtown police station is the leading contender for a new regional training facility and firing range that will likely serve about two dozen police departments in western Connecticut, according to a published report.

The New Haven Register is reporting that the 191 South Main Street facility, opened in 2020, is in the catbird seat, followed by the Transfer Station in Wilton.

The project is expected to cost $2 million to build, according to The Register. Most of will largely be covered with a recently awarded $1.5 million grant from the state under the Regional Performance Incentive Program.

The remaining half million dollars is slated to come from the towns whose law enforcement officers are likely to benefit from the facility, which include Wilton, Easton, Fairfield, Milford, Naugatuck, Newtown, Norwalk, Oxford, Redding, Ridgefield, Stamford, Trumbull and Weston.
