Newtown's 3rd Annual Scarecrow Contest​ Now Underway

NEWTOWN, CT — The town is now accepting applications for entries in its 3rd Annual Scarecrow Contest.

The event is sponsored by the Parks & Recreation Department and the Newtown Economic and Community Development Office.

Families, businesses, sports groups, community organizations and individual residents may build their scarecrow and affix it to a Fairfield Hills Lamp Post during October (first-come, first-served). Participants are encouraged to develop a design that is appropriate for public display, using materials that will withstand elements that may include wind, rain and/or snow.

The Scarecrow Contest Application & Rules are available online here. Once completed, the application may be dropped off at or mailed to the Parks & Rec office, 8 Simpson Street, Newtown, CT 06470. Deadline is Oct. 21, 2022. Participants may work on their scarecrow through Oct. 24.

The community is invited to vote for their favorite scarecrow from Oct. 25-28. A ballot box will be set up on the Fairfield Hills Campus. Categories are "Most Original," "Newtown Pride," and "People’s Choice." The winner will be announced on Oct. 31. Winners have a chance to win a Summer 2023 Family Pool & Beach Membership Pass or assorted tier prizes donated by local businesses. The application fee is $25 per lamp post. All proceeds will benefit the town's future Bicycle Playground.
