📰 News we're reading
• Man Leaves Loaded Gun In Newtown Gas Station Bathroom, Faces Charge: Police (patch.com) — Newtown residents are learning more about a recent scare at the Sunoco on Hawleyville Road, where a loaded 9mm handgun was left in the public men's restroom for at least 45 minutes. Police say the owner later came to Newtown Police Headquarters, admitted forgetting the weapon, and now faces a second-degree reckless endangerment charge with a court date in Danbury later this month.

• Newtown High School Implements Weapons Detection System (newtownbee.com) — Newtown High School students now must enter through the main entrance and pass through new CEIA OpenGate weapons detectors every morning, a system gifted by the Sandy Hook School Foundation. Administrators say the rollout has gone smoothly so far, with only brief secondary screenings needed and expectations that students will quickly adjust to the new routine at the Newtown campus.
