PD: Newtown Man Tries Stealing Truck, Vomits Instead

An allegedly intoxicated thief tried stealing a recently-purchased $55,000 truck and instead vomited in it, according to police.

A Post Road resident contacted police around 3:30 a.m. Dec. 13 after he heard his Ford F550 truck alarm go off. He checked outside and saw someone in his vehicle.

Five officers quickly responded to the residence, which is located down a long driveway. The vehicle brake light’s were on and a man appeared to be searching for something.

As officers got closer the man, identified as Andrew Wood, 31, of Newtown told them that he wasn’t stealing the truck and that he was just trying to get home, police said.

The owner said that he doesn’t know Wood. The vehicle was left unlocked, but the keys weren’t inside.

Wood’s Subaru Forester was found in the driveway, police said. It had heavy front-end damage and the right front tire was flat. Wood wasn’t aware of how his vehicle was damaged. Police couldn’t find evidence nearby of a crash.

Wood told police during processing that he had no idea how he got to the house or inside the truck. Police located another set of keys inside his vehicle, which ended up belonging to a friend. She told police she last saw Wood at 10:30 p.m. and that he wasn’t intoxicated.

Wood was charged with third-degree burglary and criminal attempt of first-degree larceny.

The vehicle owner contacted police later on to tell them that he found a bag of marijuana in his vehicle while cleaning up the vomit, police said. It was a small amount and Wood wasn’t additionally charged.
