Recycling Glass To Change In Danbury Area

Come June glass will have to be separated out from other recyclables for residents served by the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority.

Residents served by the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority will need to separate out their glass recyclables from other single-stream recyclables come June. The decision was made in order to reduce contamination caused by broken glass.

Glass will be send to Urban Mining in Connecticut, which turns the glass into an industrial filler.

Glass often breaks in single-stream recycling and contaminates other materials such as cardboard, according to the HRRA. This greatly reduces the value of recyclable material and ends up costing towns more to offload recycling products.
