Sandy Hook Parents Seek Multimillion Dollar Newtown Lawsuit Settlement

The parents of two shooting victims have offered to settle with the town and school system over the deadly 2012 shooting.

NEWTOWN, CT- The parents of two children killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting have offered to settle with the town and school system for $5.5 million each in their wrongful death lawsuits.

Parents of Jesse Lewis and Noah Pozner made the offer Monday in court, according to the Connecticut Post.

The lawsuit alleges that school security was inadequate at the time of the December 2012 mass shooting that claimed the lives of  20 children and six educators.

The lawsuits were given to a state marshal on Dec. 14, 2014, the last day possible for them to file a wrongful death claim. Lawyers for the town have previously said any wrongful death suit would be difficult to prove.

Victim families have also sued the gun manufacturer of the AR-15 rifle used in the attack in a separate lawsuit. That lawsuit is also working its way through the court system and is currently in the discovery process. It passed a major legal hurdle after a state judge refused to dismiss it.
