MSU Student from Sandy Hook Describes Her 'Second Mass Shooting'
Jackie Matthews, who crouched for hours inside a classroom on Dec. 14, 2012, relived those moments at MSU on Monday.

NEWTOWN, CT — Ten years and two months after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, a Michigan State University student found herself reliving those horrific moments.
In a TikTok video posted at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Jackie Matthews, 21, a senior at Michigan State University, told her social media followers that, "The fact that this is the second mass shooting that I have now lived through is incomprehensible."
Matthews said she had hunched in the corner with her classmates for so long on Dec. 14, 2012, that she had sustained a PTSD fracture that flares up whenever she is in a stressful situation. She and her sixth grade class in a different school in the district were directed to shelter in place were directed to shelter in place during the shooting at the elementary school.

Police said 43-year-old Anthony McRae fatally shot three students and wounded five others Monday night at Michigan State University. The shooter had previously been charged with carrying a concealed pistol without a concealed carry permit in June 2019, according to state records. He eventually pleaded guilty to the possession of a loaded firearm charge and was sentenced to probation from October 2019 to May 2021.
Matthews said her "heart goes out to all the family and friends of the victims of the Michigan State shooting, but we can no longer just provide love and prayers," and called for additional legislation.

"We can no loner allow this to happen. We can no longer be complacent. I will forever be 'Sandy Hook Strong,' and forever be 'Spartan Strong.'"
