Amazon is considering changing its policies regarding activist reviews after a book written from the perspective of a victim’s mother was plagued with conspiracy theorist comments.
Mother Scarlett Lewis wrote “Nurturing Healing Love: A Mother’s Journey of Hope and Forgiveness” about her journey after her 6-year-old son was killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Dozens of reviews calling Lewis a liar and opportunist showed-up on the book’s Amazon page, according to the Seattle Times. Many of the reviews were taken down, but there are still dozens calling the shooting a hoax.
Amazon spokesman Tom Cook told the Seattle Times that the company is looking at its policies regarding activism reviews and is considering changes.

“All of the enlightened know this to be a fraud,” wrote one reviewer. “This is and should be seen as a book of fiction. No one died in this active drill.”
Many of the reviews have become a back and forth argument about the shooting.
“This is an incredible story about a horrendous event that never should have happened,” wrote another reviewer. “That this mother was able to make it past this cold dark day only to be attacked by the Tin Foil Hat Brigade is a horrible reflection of our society. Free speech and all that but to attack a mother who has lost a child?”
Lewis isn’t the only family member that has been targeted by conspiracy theorists. Parents of shooting victim Noah Pozner Lenny and Veronique Pozner recently wrote about their experience with conspiracy theorists, including Florida Atlantic University Professor James Tracy.
