Suicidal Male Near Newtown High School Causes School Lock-In

The incident occurred at Berkshire Motors, located across the street from Newtown High School on Wednesday.

Danbury’s SWAT team was called in to assist Newtown police with a suicidal male near the high school, according to the News Times.

The man was causing a disturbance at Berkshire Motors, located on Route 34, directly across from Newtown High School, which caused the school to be on lock-in for two hours during after school activities.

Superintendent of Schools Joseph Erardi sent a robo call to parents to notify them of the incident, which occurred around 3 p.m. after school had already been dismissed. Another call was made just before 5 p.m. notifying families that the students and staff are safe.

Exit 11 of Interstate 84 was closed due to police activity and motorists in Newtown and nearby Bethel and Brookfield reported heavy delays on the highway and Routes 34 and 25.
