NMC Prognosis

Today's Weather: Low pressure moving eastward off the North Carolina coast with a cold front stretching through southern GA, New Orleans to Houston. A second cold front stretches across the Northeast frontier. A large ridge of high pressure dominates Alaska and northwest Canada. Coldest temps are in northern Alaska -35f.

Radar: Lake and mountain snow showers from ME to PA. Bands of snow across SD as well as southern UT, CO and NM.

GFS: Arctic high pressure dominates NY and NE through Tuesday with a cold flow and the usual lake and mountain snow showers. Tuesday night, cyclogenesis occurs off of Cape Hatteras and then moves rapidly out to sea brushing Long Island with light snow. A new low forms over western TN and moves up the Ohio Valley to the St. Lawrence Valley Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday night the GFS moves a mix into southern New England and snow for Northern NE.

A secondary coastal storm tries to form off the Jersey Shore, but the primary over the St. Lawrence River dominates and pushes milder air into southern New England, with the 5400m thickness reaching into southern VT, NH and ME. North of that the GFS shows mainly snow. Behind the system, cold air once again rushes into NY and NE from Ontario.

Saturday the GFS develops a new low over northern Alabama which spreads snow into NY and NE and severe weather in the southern Appalachians from VA to LA.

Sunday the system reforms over southern NJ and intensifies over the Atlantic bringing significant rain to southern New England and snow to the north. The GFS shows a possible change back to snow for southern New England before ending as it heads into the Gulf of Maine.
