Today's Weather: Intense low pressure east of the Canadian Maritimes has retrograded slightly keeping New England and eastern New York State under a NW flow of cold from eastern Quebec Province. High pressure is in control of the Midwest with a stationary front that has drifted eastward into the Western Plain States. Low pressure over the North Pacific continues to push moisture from the Pacific Northwest to the Inland Waterway AK. Temperatures have been moderating across Canada and Alaska with readings around zero. Coldest core this morning is found across the upper Midwest with readings in eastern Nebraska and Iowa around -17F.

High pressure drifts eastward over the Southeast giving the Northeast a return flow of moderating air over the weekend for southern New England. The QPF indicates snow showers over the Adirondacks, Green and White Mountains. Moderation continues into early next week with a warm front pushing into northern New England, delivering rain/snow showers to central and northern New England into mid week.
Late next week the GFS sets up a northerly flow which allows colder air to seep back into the Northeast. At the end of next week, a low pressure area develops over PA and moves through southern New England delivering rain/snow for central and northern New England. This run shows the low to be considerably weaker and farther north than yesterday's run, but that is typical of the GFS.
