Today's Weather: Storm that moved through New England yesterday is moving northeast over Newfoundland pulling down cold air from Ontario into New England. High pressure dominates the eastern half of the country with a series of lows trying to organize over the central and southern Rockies. The Aleutian Low is trying to reform over Homer/Seward AK. Coldest core is located over the Northwest Territories and Nunavut -44F.

Radar: Lake and mountain snow showers mainly over central New York State. Two areas of precip., snow spanning from MN to the AR/MO border. Another area of snow scattered through the Rockies and rain over central and western CA.

GFS: GFS shows cyclogenesis occurring over the Texas Panhandle and moving into AR over the next 24 hours spreading rain up to OH and southeast PA with heavy rain and thunderstorms from West Virginia to MO. Snow reaches western New England Saturday afternoon and then spreads northeastward into VT and NH. Over the next 24 hours the low moves into the St. Lawrence Valley and intensifies creating severe weather over the Southeast from KY to the LA Gulf Coast. Milder air pushes into southern New England changing the snow to rain but a low trying to form halts the northward march of the 5400m thickness line at the NH VT/MA border (the 850mb 0 isotherm position is similar).

Sunday night, the coastal low takes control and starts pulling cold air southward towards southern New England pulling the 5400m thickness back down into southwest New England. At the same time, the low pushes milder air into Down East Maine changing the snow to rain. The storm pulls out by Monday morning creating a reinforcement of cold air with lake and mountain snow showers in its wake.

Mid week, a Blue Norther invades the midsection of the country bringing very cold temperatures south to the TX/OK border.

End of next week, the GFS shows a coastal storm swiping Cape Cod with an upper air disturbance bringing light snow to New England.

Note: The weekend storm system is a volatile situation. If the low over Boston Harbor intensifies faster than the GFS is projecting, a significant change in the snow forecast is possible.
