Will the Sun Return to Newtown on Mother's Day?

We'll see more rain, thunderstorms and fog over the next few days and we'll let you know if and when the sun plans to reappear.

NEWTOWN, CT — We haven’t seen the sun in almost a week now and we won’t for at least a couple of more days.

Yes, more rain today, and more rain on Saturday and maybe even a little more rain early on Mother’s Day.

The forecast has been downright gloomy lately. The good news is that we needed some rain and that’s what we’ve received over the past week.

As to whether we’ll see the sun on Mother’s Day, the answer is yes, but likely later in the afternoon.

Here is the detailed National Weather Service forecast for Mother’s Day weekend:

  • Today: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm with temps barely reaching 50 degrees. It will also feel colder because it will be a bit windy with gusts up to 20 MPH expected.
  • Tonight: Showers and fog in southern Connecticut while northern Connecticut may see a thunderstorm and periods of heavy rain and fog overnight.
  • Saturday: Showers and fog early in southern Connecticut but the rain may not end until the mid afternoon in northern Connecticut. After the rain ends, it will remain mostly cloudy with temps near 60 degrees.
  • Saturday night: More showers possible with a low around 50 degrees.
  • Mother’s Day: Showers early possibly and then yes, the sun is forecast to appear in the afternoon with the temperature around 60 degrees.

And of course just in time for the workweek it will be sunny on Monday and Tuesday with temps reaching into the mid 60s. More rain is forecast for the middle of the week too.
