Gary M. Conway Sr., 72; Member of North Branford Volunteer Fire Department

U.S. Army veteran; father of four including an East Haven firefighter.

Gary Mitchell Conway Sr. 72, formerly of North Branford, loving husband of the late Ellen Litz Conway, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Shelton Lakes Healthcare Center.

Gary was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., February 23, 1942, a son of the late James J. and Jessica Albert Conway.

He served in the U.S. Army and had previously been employed as a delivery driver for an auto parts company for many years. He was a proud, 20 year member of the North Branford Volunteer Fire Department, Company #1.

Surviving are three sons, Gary M. (Valerie) Conway, Jr., of Ansonia, John J. (Ally Martin-Hamrick) Conway, of East Haven, and Jason R. (Sandi Clement-Czaplicki) Conway, of North Branford; a daughter, Renee Conway (John) Santoemma, and their children, Nicholas, Alexander, Aidan, and P.J. Santoemma, all of Ridgeway, Virginia. He also leaves a brother, Donald Conway, of Florida, and five sisters, Eleanor Cawley, Linda Symmons, and Maureen Barbaro, all of Long Island, NY, Carolyn O’Brien, of Walkill, NY, and Barbra Krajnak, of Pennsylvania.

Gary was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Albert Conway, and four sisters, Joan Conway, Margie Decker, Gail Ankenbrandt, and Kathleen Schmeider.

The funeral will be from the Keenan Funeral Home, 330 Notch Hill Road, North Branford, Friday morning at 10:00 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be in Indian River Cemetery, Clinton. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Thursday evening from 4:00 to 8:00.
