2 North Haven Veterans Receive Free Home Repairs From House Of Heroes CT
A 65-year-old U.S. Air Force Veteran and a 78-year-old U.S. Army Veteran recently received no-cost repairs from the service organization.
NORTH HAVEN, CT — Two veterans from North Haven recently received no-cost home repairs from the Hamden-based non-profit veterans service organization House of Heroes Connecticut.
House of Heroes Connecticut also provided repairs to a veteran in Middletown last weekend. The three projects brought the total number of veterans served by the organization to 308 since its 2012 founding.
In North Haven, volunteers from the Knights of Columbus, Hon. Patrick Donlin Assembly 2459 of New Haven assisted 65-year-old U.S. Air Force Veteran Laura Risley, who in 1978 was an Air Force educator teaching English to students in Iran, according to a news release.

Volunteers renovated the front porch, removed and replaced a Bilco basement door, and repaired and stained a shed.
Also in North Haven, HOHCT assisted 78-year-old U.S. Army Veteran Ron Szudora with support from Project Partner Coldwell Banker Realty of North Haven.

“Szudora served mostly stateside from 1967 to 1970 with top-secret clearance as a missile technician on the Polaris ballistic missile program,” according to the news release.
Volunteers repaired a mailbox, front porch and door, kitchen ceiling and side deck.
In Middletown, HOHCT served 76-year-old U.S. Army Veteran Paul Raboin.
“The Bristol native was drafted shortly after completing high school in 1969 and served through 1971 in Germany, trained as a rocket launcher,” according to the news release.
Volunteers from Pratt & Whitney, an RTX Company, helped prep and stain a front porch and repair a garage, handicap platform, fence and backdoor stairs.
The projects were made possible by Project Partners Coldwell Banker Realty of North Haven, the Knights of Columbus Honorable Patrick Donlin Assembly New Haven and Pratt & Whitney, an RTX Company, according to the news release.
A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, House of Heroes Connecticut recognizes, honors and serves military and public safety veterans and/or their surviving spouses in need for their sacrificial service to America through the provision of one-day, no-cost home repairs focused on safety and accessibility. The Connecticut Chapter, which will serve its 300th Veteran since its 2012 founding next Saturday, May 23, is part of a national organization founded in Columbus, Georgia in 2000 that has served more than 2,400 Veterans across the country.
