$23K Stolen From Seniors, Program Coordinator Charged: Police

Police say the former program coordinator at the North Haven Senior Center has been arrested for embezzling more than $23K from seniors.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — The former program coordinator at the North Haven Senior Center is accused of embezzling more than $23,000 from seniors over a five-year period, according to police. Susan Tienken-Jung, 53, was arrested on a warrant Friday, March 23, following an extensive investigation, according to police. The investigation was launched last summer after “irregularities were noted in a privately owned Senior Center bank account,” police said.

“As the Program Coordinator at the senior center, Tienken-Jung would assist a group of seniors in reconciling statements and balances relating to this bank account, but she was not authorized to check writing privileges,” police wrote in a press release. “It is alleged that between 2012 and 2017, Tienken-Jung had purposely misappropriated upward to $23,700 in funds belonging to members of the Senior Center, for personal gain, by forging the names of various Senior Center Finance Committee members.”

Tienken-Jung was charged with 56 counts of first-degree larceny and third-degree forgery. She was released after posting a $25,000 court-ordered bond with an arraignment date of April 12 in Meriden Superior Court.
